Threshold to the Wood…

Recent visitors to the woods will have noticed the disruption to the area immediately behind the Cook House - the marquee has been taken down (aided by storms Bella and Christoph) and what was once the lower car-park has been cleared of hard-core, ready for seeding as a woodland meadow. The trees have been thinned to let more light in to hopefully encourage more orchids, which were spotted near to the play equipment last summer.

The emergence of the orchids was another red flag that it was time to move the play glade (that and the ever increasing mud!) - so the big swing has been relocated to Hideaway Hill (by letter ‘H’ on the alphabet trail) La Conchita, Simon Page’s ingenious play sculpture, has been relocated to the letter ‘E’ on the trail and more play equipment will emerge along the trail in the coming months.

The threshold itself is being raised, to improve views out over the wood towards Blackboys. A new retaining wall is going in, log stacks will be rebuilt and a living archway will mark the beginning of the woodland trail.
